Season’s Greetings Sisters and Brothers,
I would like to sincerely thank every one of our members for the outstanding work you have done. Right now, I would like to take this time to thank the entire Roads Department for the job they did during October’s record snowfall. Our members were called to duty when 40 centimetres of snow fell in one day. This couldn’t have happened at a worse time as we hadn’t rolled into SNIC yet, so most of the equipment wasn’t available for us to operate. However, we did our very best with what we had and we did require some help from other resources throughout the province.
On Friday, December 7th, we held our Annual Open House. This year’s gathering was one of the busiest turnouts in years and it certainly was wonderful to see so many members at this year’s event. Also, our Children’s Christmas Party was on Saturday, December 1st at the Falconridge Community Hall. The kids loved seeing the magician and, of course, Santa too.
As you may be aware, when the New Democratic Party (NDP) got elected, one of the major issues was the governance of the Local Authority Pension Plan (LAPP). We were very pleased that your government tabled legislation on November 20, 2018 that does just that. This means that we don’t have to worry that future governments can attack our pension plan, as the Prentice government had tried to do. We will have Union and Employers on a joint board. This has proven to be a model that is used in other provinces and the plans are doing quite well. This would not have happened if we did not have a labour-friendly government. I hope that we all remember this as 2019 approaches and we head into an election year.
Wishing all of you and your families a wonderful Holiday Season and Prosperous New Year!
